Title: Classical noise effects on open systems of entangled qubits

Supervisor: Prof. D. P. K. Ghikas, Department of Physics, University of Patras

Description: The thesis focuses on the study of models of open quantum systems used in quantum computation.
Methods are proposed to engineer the environment of such systems in order to protect quantum features such as
coherence and entanglement. Noise-induced phenomena such as stochastic resonance (and anti-resonance)
and noise shielding are studied in detail, discussing both their theoretical and experimental consequences in
the framework of quantum information theory.

M.Sc. in Theoretical Physics, Astrophysics and Computational Physics 2006 – 2009
Department of Physics, University of Patras

M.Sc. Thesis

Title: Decoherence under the influence of external noise

Supervisor: Prof. D. P. K. Ghikas, Department of Physics, University of Patras

Description: The thesis focuses on the study of the entanglement of two qubits belonging to the
XY Heisenberg chain inside a noisy magnetic field, as well as the optimization of the system–environment set-up
in order to maximize the disentanglement time.
